The article examines the characteristics of disaster workers' perception of the radiation threat relating to the Chernobyl tragedy and looks into the nature of emotional and personality changes that occurred among the survivors of the radiation threat crisis. The study revealed that the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) group had additional characteristics that are different from the non-PTSD group. It was also found that secondary stressors play a role in the etiology of PTSD based on data obtained in the course of psychotherapeutic intervention.
