The UK's grid operator has paid over £9 million ($11.4 million) this winter to households and businesses in order to reduce their power usage. The program, called the Demand Flexibility Service, has seen 2.2 million participants shift their power usage outside of peak hours. This year, participants were asked to take part in energy saving on shorter notice than in previous years, due to increased awareness of the need to control demand after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The electricity saved through the program was enough to power over 6 million homes for over an hour. [Extracted from the article]
