We tested nitrided specimens of VT6 titanium alloy both in the as-delivered state and after thermal hydrogen treatment. It is shown that the analyzed procedure of treatment increases the wear resistance of the specimens operating in couples with 12Kh18N10Т stainless steel and 'HIRULEN' ultrahighmolecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) by 27-31% in the case of friction without lubrication and by 23-30% in a 0.9% NaCl solution. Under the conditions of friction with lubrication (in the indicated solution), the effect of improvement of the antifriction properties is less pronounced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
