A recent report discusses research findings on lung transplants, specifically focusing on the differences in systemic inflammation between brain-dead (DBD) and circulatory-dead (DCD) donors. The study compared plasma levels of certain cytokines in DBD and DCD donors and their respective recipients, as well as their relationship with primary graft dysfunction (PGD) and mortality after lung transplantation. The results showed that DBD donors had higher levels of systemic inflammation compared to DCD donors, and higher levels of TNF-a in donors were associated with a higher incidence of PGD. The post-operative mortality rate was low and similar in both groups. [Extracted from the article]
