The article discusses Western-Russian relations. The author argues that Western responses to the Russian annexation of Crimea and to political tensions in eastern Ukraine have been too focused on perceived moral transgressions by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is suggested that the West should instead address broader problems related to the enlargement Euro-Atlantic institutions such as the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
