A new report from the University of North Dakota presents fresh data on psychotraumatology and the assessment of sexual violence. The study compared two different strategies for assessing a history of sexual violence: a general trauma screening questionnaire and specialized behaviorally-specific questionnaires. The research found that there were large differences in the cases identified by the behaviorally-specific questionnaires compared to the general trauma screening questionnaire, but few differences in the prevalence rates of sexual violence detected by each questionnaire type. The study concluded that clinicians and researchers should consider the population when selecting assessments to identify sexual violence history. [Extracted from the article]
