An encyclopedia entry for Rose Pesotta is presented. A Jewish anarchist, labor activist and internationalist, Pesotta is mostly known as one of the first female vice presidents of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU). Born in 1896 into a middle-class family in the town of Derazhnya in the Russian Ukraine, Pesotta decided to join her sister in the U.S. to avoid her parents' plan to marry her to a village boy.
