Scientific and bibliographic activity of the National scientific agricultural library of NAAS: achievement and prospects

The article highlights the main achievements of the National Scientific Agricultural Library of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NSAL NAAS) over the past twenty years in the research work in the history of agricultural science and biography studies and agricultural scientific bibliography. It has been stressed that the modern agricultural sector of Ukraine needs a systematic and high-quality information and library support to solve the problem of the agriculture revival. Among the main functions in the activities of libraries, the representations of the best material from own funds have been highlighted. The necessity of solving the problem of scientific and informational support for the activities of industry research institutions, scientists and agricultural specialists, land users and landowners, has been stressed. The most important aspects of the library’s activities, in particular, on the creation of a repertoire of the national agricultural bibliography and agricultural biography, the preparation and publication of historical and scientific biographical and bibliographic directories, collections, indexes (13 episodes), extra-serial publications and electronic scientific professional publications – an interdepartmental thematic collection "History of science and biography studies" – have been considered. It has been noted that the publications of the employees of the NSAL NAAS repeatedly highlighted the various aspects of the institution's activities as for the history and creation of scientific bibliography and biography studies. It has been found out that the main purpose of biobibliographic indexes is to create an information base for studying domestic field history, understanding the role of the individual in the socio-political process and preserving for future generations the information about prominent figures, representatives of the national elite. The activities of the NSAL NAAS in the study of methodological and applied problems of agrarian biography studies, in particular related to the creation of bio-bibliographic indexes, the development of electronic biographical and bio-bibliographic scientific and information resources have been highlighted. The article emphasizes the importance of the NSAL NAAS specialists’ efforts, in particular, of the sector of scientific bibliography and biography studies aimed at conducting broad scientific and bibliographic work to create scientific products as a source of the history of agricultural science of Ukraine.
