This chapter discusses how prepared Ukrainian universities, their staff and students were for teaching and learning in pandemic conditions. It answers the question: What were their first reactions and actions? Ukrainian practices and experiences are investigated. Data obtained through in-depth interviews and questionnaires demonstrate that regardless of being ill-prepared for the unexpected quarantine, Ukrainian universities responded to the challenges and quickly organized the process of emergency remote teaching. There were positive effects of quarantine restrictions, as they became a stimulus to develop and implement e-management and e-learning technologies. On the other hand, there is still a lack of understanding of the principles and nature of online education in academic society, which would prevent its effective implementation in Ukraine.
