The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 shook the entire world, there have not been such massive combat operations in Europe ever since the end of World War II. Russia as an authoritarian regime has strong control over all aspects of domestic politics. With the political elite and government-aligned in their plans, society is doomed to choose to support the state or be suppressed and threatened. The invasion of Ukraine was supposed to be a quick few weeks’ operation, and as Russia planned would set its position as a great power again, the “special military operation” turned out to be a disaster with severe casualties and no achievements of initially set objectives. The war also brought some notable changes to the domestic regime of the Russian state, impacting different actors such as political, military, and civilian. The war has been ongoing for over 14 months, and the consequences are still yet to be determined. This paper focuses on Russian domestic regime stability in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022-2023. It looks at the theory of concordance by Rebecca L. Schiff and attempts to apply it to the Russian domestic regime trying to understand whether it is disturbed due to the invasion. The concordance theory talks about the balance between three main state actors: political, military and civilian which is needed to prevent a military coup. The indicators for this concordance are involving political decision-making progress, the social composition of the officer corps, the military style, and the recruitment method. All four are assigned an indicator status of positive prior to the invasion and are analyzed in the context of the invasion itself, and the implications it brings. The bachelor paper research problem is how stable Russia’s political regime is in the context of the war in Ukraine.
