Les chapitres de ce livre suivent un ordre géographique et non chronologique ou thématique. Des études d’objectifs et de présentations très diverses s’y trouvent ainsi groupées par pays, d’ouest en est, dans quatre sections : le Turkménistan (7 chapitres), l’Ouzbékistan (11 chapitres), le Tadjikistan avec le Kirghizstan (5 chapitres), le Kazakhstan (4 chapitres). Après une très sommaire introduction des directeurs, dépourvue de toute référence mais illustrée de cartes de situation des sites, .
