Komponenttipulan vaikutus käyttöpääomaan : analyysi toimenpiteistä ja tuloksista ; The effects of supply shortages on working capital : analysis based on actions and results

This master’s thesis evaluated two Finnish manufacturing companies and how they managed their working capital and supply chains in times of crises during 2020-2022. The research was conducted using a multimethod research strategy. The material for the research was acquired from the companies own financial reports and ceo commentary. The study investigated whether the companies managed their supply chains logically in such a way that supply challenges resulted in the right measures to minimize these challenges. Theoretical framework for this thesis was the assumption that a company that has a consistently managed supply chain and possesses the right situational view increases the competitiveness of the whole supply chain. Respectively a supply chain managed illogically and whit poor quality information will lead to supply chain deterioration. Companies can not forecast supply shortages particularly well. The findings of this study are inline with previous literature where for example it was apparent that the pandemic and the war did not have an effect on supply chain management or working capital. Study also finds that good market environment does not necessarily mean good profitability if component availability is poor. Case companies did not make any major changes to their supply chain management despite the long period of shortages in supply. This study did not find that supply chains were managed illogically. ; Tutkimuksessa arvioitiin kahta Suomalaista valmistavan teollisuuden yritystä ja sitä, kuinka ne hallitsivat käyttöpääomaansa ja toimitusketjujaan kriisien keskellä vuosina 2020-2022. Tutkimus toteutettiin monimenetelmätutkimuksena. Aineistona olivat toimitusjohtajien osavuosikatsauksien kommentit ja yritysten tuloslaskelmat ja taseet. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, johtivatko yritykset toimitusketjujaan loogisesti siten että toimitushaasteet saivat aikaan oikeita toimenpiteitä näiden haasteiden minimoimiseksi.
