For a long time, in environmental economics, waste was considered as an undesirable effect of production systems, generating an output without utility or economic value and associated with a negative environmental externality. The scientific community has questioned this approach by developing new theoretical frameworks to understand waste as a resource in a circular system. Bio-waste (from the kitchen, garden, food industry, crop residues, livestock effluents) is now identified as a resource for the implementation of a sustainable circular bioeconomy. However, the implementation of bio-waste recovery systems is generally disconnected from the socio-economic and environmental context, as it is so complex to conduct a systemic reflection. Such a systemic reflection would allow a better understanding of the needs and constraints of the territory in order to adapt the deployment strategies of the circular economy and to ensure the efficiency of the processes. The BEECOME (Biowaste, Environment, ECOnomy and MEtabolism) project is based on the development of a systemic approach to identify the short circuit strategies most adapted to the territory for the management of bio-waste. It aims to identify drivers and determine and define the articulation of the spatial scales involved, towards a regime of interterritoriality prior to the construction and evaluation of transition trajectories towards a sustainable circular economy of bio-waste management of territories. Interterritoriality is defined as the relations between territories, but also the relations between territories and networks. This work has led to methodological choices that are crucial for understanding the dynamics of transition in territories. It is based on an analysis of the literature, interviews with stakeholders in the case study territories and a study of the flows of the socio-economic metabolism of the territories. The originality of the project lies in the simultaneous consideration of local drivers and technical options and those resulting from ...
