The thesis focuses on the field of maintenance for geographically distributed production sites in the context of the circular economy. Production sites face significant challenges in terms of equipment costs and availability. To mitigate these challenges, a distributed maintenance approach is adopted, integrating the centralization of corrective maintenance operations within a Central Maintenance Workshop (CMW) and the implementation of preventive maintenance operations through a Mobile Maintenance Workshop (MMW). This approach aims to optimize costs while ensuring high equipment availability. The first contribution of the thesis lies in the methodology for the design and performance evaluation of the CMW. Using queueing network theory, a component stock management model is proposed, considering equipment lifecycle and circular economy principles. The application of this model in the railway sector demonstrates the possibility of refurbishing 90% of end-of-life components, with a reduction of over 6% in corrective maintenance costs over a 10-year period. The second contribution focuses on the design and optimization of preventive maintenance and transportation operations, incorporating environmental constraints and vehicle capacity limits. A linear programming-based model is developed to schedule these operations over a strategic horizon, resulting in a significant reduction in preventive maintenance costs of up to 50%. Furthermore, a dynamic rescheduling method is proposed to address unforeseen failures. The thesis's findings are supported by the publication of two journal articles and eight international conference papers. However, avenues for further research are identified, including the exploration of models for continuous component health state evolution and the integration of joint optimization of distributed maintenance costs. In conclusion, this thesis introduces innovative methodologies for the design, performance evaluation, and optimization of distributed maintenance in a circular economy context.
