The sorption properties of semicokes (SC) of brown coals of Russia and Ukraine and of materials on their basis obtained after their modification by oxidation, heat treatment, and other methods were studied when they absorbed mixtures of dioxides of sulfur and nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, acetic acid, hydrocarbons, etc. from a gas and air mixture. The important role in sorption of the chemical reactions on the surface was established, and also the increased sorptivity and selectivity of the cation-substituted forms when the ligand sorption of individual substances proceeds on them. The established relations were substantiated, and the ways of using the studied sorbents were determined.
