Einzeltreffer — DigiBib

From 1991 to 1993 German scientists carried out a measuring programme to determine the radiation exposure in the areas of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine contaminated by the Chernobyl accident. Several German scientific institutions were involved in these investigations. The project started in May 1991 with 22 vehicles operating in the highly contaminated areas. By the end, more than 300 000 individuals, about 6000 environmental samples and 7000 personal dosemeters had been measured. The incorporated activity for 98% of all individuals investigated was low and gave no cause for concern. In 2% of all cases an activity was found which was significantly higher but never exceeded the professional annual intake limits set by ICRP. The maximum value of the 10-year effective dose since 1986 - averaged for each of the 240 settlements investigated - was assessed as 100 mSv.
