A new procedure for determination of oxidizability of metallurgical slags based on measurement of the equilibrium partial oxygen pressure (PO2) is developed. An electrochemical sensor is created for proximate determination of this characteristics. Its main component is a ceramic element on the basis of boron carbonitride developed at the Institute of Material Science Problems of the Acad. Sci. of Ukraine. The proximate data obtained permit controlling the state of the slag bath, establishing de-oxidation conditions, ensuring an increase in the efficiency of steel refinement by the slag at different processes.
