The media widely identified the Orange Revolution in the Ukraine as a signal for the country´s set off towards the West. The article questions if the election of Viktor Juschtschenko has indeed led to a political reorientation or if his foreign policy actually has to be interpreted as a mere modification of his predecessor Leonid Kutschma´s reign. The paper then looks at the European Union´s response to the Ukrainian ambitions to become a member state. The analysis shows that the future shape and status of European-Ukrainian relations must indeed be regarded as open to further negotiation. - (IfL).
