British historiography unquestionably holds an important position in research about national socialist Germany. In the immediate post-war period the writings of British historians were still mostly focused on Hitler, but the sudden methodological breaks of the sixties, brought about, among other sources, by Mason’s and Milward’s works, favoured a better assessment of economic and social factors. British historiography has been above all, for several decades, calling attention by its prominent open-mindedness towards the debates between German historiographers. One particular evidence of this process is the remarkable synthesis between intentionalist and structuralist theses carried out by Ian Kershaw.
